Sea Spray is the first seeded hybrid seashore paspalum available as both seed and sod.  Sea Spray is an extremely salt tolerant turfgrass, exhibiting outstanding turf quality, a bright green color, and a beautiful, uniform appearance.  Ideal for temperate to hot, humid coastal climates, Sea Spray also affords excellent drought tolerance, and good shade tolerance.  It is excellent for use on areas irrigated with effluent water, or subject to naturally high saline conditions.

COLOR

• Bright green.

TEXTURE

• Medium blade.

PERFORMANCE

• Sod can be repaired or strengthened with seed.
• Very high salt tolerance--greater than bermudagrass.
• Aggressive, prostrate, spreading growth habit.
• Good wear tolerance with moderate recovery.
• Moderately dense.
• Aggressive stolon and rhizome growth.
• Prefers soils with moderate to high salinity.  Tolerant of most soil types, pH range of 4.5-9.0.
•  Excellent drought tolerance.
• Better cold tolerance than most bermudas.  With high nitrogen and lower mowing heights it exhibits good winter color in mild winter climates.
•  Good performance in wet, boggy conditions.
•  Very good disease resistance in saline conditions.
• High hypoxia tolerance.  Can thrive in low, boggy, high water table environments, and can withstand periodic short-term inundation with water (sea water) for long periods of time.

CLIMATE

• Thrives in warm to hot climates, USDA zones 7 to 11.

SHADE TOLERANCE

• Poor shade tolerance.
• Performs well under reduced light quality conditions such as rainy, cloudy, foggy, or smoggy environmental climates, but not in severe tree shade conditions.

ESTABLISHMENT AND MAINTENANCE

• Requires good quality water for establishment (30 days)
• Low maintenance.
• For best performance, fertilize at annual rate of 2-3 lbs. N/1000 sq. ft.  Early fall and spring fertilization best.  Summer fertility with high nitrogen is not recommended.  Sea Spray likes potassium and chlorine.
• Deep, infrequent irrigations are best throughout the growing season.

MOWING

• ½” – 1 ½” with reel mower.

OPTIONS

• Regular sod: Comes in 16” x 72” rolls with ½” of soil.  Each weighs approximately 45 lbs.  Great for normal conditions.
• Big-roll sod: is 42” x 105’, allowing large areas to be sodded quickly and efficiently.  Great for large sports fields, parks, and cemeteries.
• Thick-cut sod: has up to 2” soil base that provides anchorage for the sod until its roots knit to the subsoil.  Ideal for renovating a sports field that needs to be put back in play within a few days.
• Washed Sod has had the soil removed from the roots to help eliminate sod-to-soil incompatibilities and to help the sod knit to the soil faster. Reduces shipping weight.
