EXPERT INSTALLATION
West Coast Turf offers expert installation for projects of all sizes. The same experienced crews trusted to install our natural grass for major professional sports fields bring that same level of care and expertise to golf courses, parks, schools, commercial landscapes and residential projects throughout California and Arizona.
STOLONS
Sprigs and stolons are pieces of above- or below-ground stems from spreading grasses, most commonly bermudagrass. Planting stolons can be an economical alternative to sod for establishing large turf areas.
When planted during the appropriate growing season and provided with proper irrigation, mowing and fertility, stolons can develop into a dense, established natural grass surface.
HYDROSEEDING & HYDROSTOLONIZING
Hydroseeding is a proven method for establishing natural grass and other vegetation from seed. Seed, fertilizer, mulch, soil conditioners and tackifier are combined with water and applied to the prepared site as a slurry.
The resulting hydromulch provides several important benefits:
- Moisture Retention: Hydromulch helps retain moisture around the seed, promoting faster and more uniform germination.
- Erosion Control: The hydromulch creates a protective layer that helps reduce wind and water erosion during establishment.
- Seed Protection: Hydromulch helps protect seed from heat and drying while creating favorable conditions for germination. As the new vegetation becomes established, the hydromulch gradually decomposes.
Hydrostolonizing uses a similar application process, but utilizes stolons or sprigs rather than seed. It is commonly used to establish bermudagrass and other vegetatively propagated turfgrasses.
MECHANICAL PLANTING
Large, open and relatively flat areas can be efficiently planted using specialized tractor-drawn equipment. Mechanical planting is ideal for large-scale projects where traditional installation methods may not be practical.
10-acre minimum. Seasonal availability.
BIG ROLL SOD
Our Big Roll sod is cut in 42-inch-wide rolls and can be up to 100 feet long. Big rolls are ideal for large, open areas such as sports fields, golf courses, parks and commercial projects. Installation is fast and efficient, with fewer seams than traditional sod rolls.
THICK-CUT SOD
For projects requiring additional stability or faster use, sod can be harvested up to 2 inches thick rather than our standard ½-inch cut. Thick-cut sod is ideal for sports fields and other areas that need to return to use quickly—and, in certain applications, immediately.
READY PLAY GRASS®
Ready Play Grass® is natural grass grown using our exclusive technique over a semi-permeable plastic layer, creating a thick, strong root mat without cutting the roots during harvest. The result is a stable, durable playing surface that does not need to root down before use—it’s ready for play immediately after installation.
WASHED SOD
Washed sod has the majority of its native soil removed to create a virtually bare-root product. It can be used to address sod-to-soil compatibility issues, meet certain agricultural requirements, encourage faster rooting into the prepared soil profile and reduce shipping weight.
CUSTOM GROW
Need a specific variety, seed mix, blend or growing profile? West Coast Turf offers custom growing programs to meet specialized project requirements. We can grow to specified soil or sand profiles for sports, golf and other specialty applications.
FIELD RENOVATION SERVICES
Our Field TopMaker provides specialized renovation for natural grass surfaces, including leveling, de-thatching, removal of unwanted surface material and harvesting of sprigs.
It is ideal for sports fields, golf courses, polo fields, municipal grass areas and other large natural grass surfaces.
The machine uses a series of precisely adjustable blades to remove material at controlled depths. Cut material can be returned to the surface when appropriate or transferred directly into trailers for removal. Its high working capacity allows many athletic fields to be leveled and cleaned efficiently with minimal downtime.
